Thai energy giant Banpu Plc. reported that its Indonesian coal production slightly increased to 3.433 million tons in the second quarter this year from the previous quarter of 3.254 million tons.

In a recent statement, Banpu said that its coal delivery in the second quarter declined to 2.854 million tons from 2.920 million tons in the previous quarter due to an unusually prolonged rainy season.

Banpu also said its Indonesian coal sales reached 4.846 billion bath or US$118 million in the second quarter, driven by an improvement in average selling price. The price was US$34.15 per ton, increasing 47 percent from last year, Banpu added.

Banpu operates seven coalmines in Indonesia including four which are already in production, that is Jorong Barutama Greston in South Kalimantan, Indominco Mandiri, Kitadin, and Trubaindo, which are all located in East Kalimantan.

The company has targeted to raise its production by 18 percent from 12.9 million tons last year to 15.3 million tons this year. (robert)
