Friday, November 11 2005 - 06:14 AM WIB

Thai energy giant Banpu Plc. Reported Friday its Indonesian coal production increased by 13 percent to 3.907 million tons in the third quarter this year from the previous quarter of 3.433 million tons.

Banpu said that its coal delivery in the third quarter also improved to 3.728 million tons from 2.854 million tons. ?The higher tonnage was contributed by the ramp-up production at the new mine Trubaindo and improvement at Indominco,? Banpu said in a report to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

According to the report, Trubaindo mine shipped 0.54 million tons compared to the debut loading of 0.08 million tons in the previous quarter. Indominco sales recovered by 0.32 million tons to 2.03 million tons as dry season during third quarter allowed better utilization of mining and logistic facilities.

Banpu also said average selling price in this period rose by 10 percent to US$37.73 per tons from the second quarter.

Banpu operates six Indonesian coal mines, four which are already in production, that is Jorong Barutama Greston in South Kalimantan, Indominco Mandiri, Kitadin, and Trubaindo, which are all located in East Kalimantan. Meanwhile, two other coal mine concessions are Bharinto in East Kalimantan and Barasentosa Lestari in South Sumatra. (Robert)
