State coal-mining firm PT. Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) and Thai energy conglomerate Banpu PCL on Sunday in Bangkok signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) jointly utilize coal that would be produced from Banpu?s coal mine in Mumpun Pandan, Jambi as blending coal for PTBA?s Ombilin coal production in West Sumatra.
Mumpun Pandan is scheduled to commence production late 2004, at an initial rate of 500,000 tonnes and targets cement producers in Western part of Sumatra as consumers.
?The MoU also covers cooperation in maintaining Banpu and PTBA?s bucket wheel excavators (BWE) as we are the only companies in Indonesia operating BWE?s,? said Leksono Poeranto, Banpu Indonesia?s spokesperson.
Banpu is one of Indonesia?s top coal producers with producing mines in South and East Kalimantan. (alex)
