Banpu Q2 Indonesian coal production, sales up

Thai energy conglomerate Banpu Plc. on Thursday reported that coal production from Indonesian mines had increased by 6 percent to 3.05 million tons in the second quarter of 2003 from 2.83 million tons in the previous quarter.

The company said that the figure of sales in this quarter also had raised to 2.87 million tons from 2.68 million tons.

In Indonesia, Banpu operates three producing coalmines: Jorong (South Kalimantan), Indominco (East Kalimantan), and Kitadin (East Kalimantan). Another three coalmines (Trubaindo, Mumpun Pandan, and Barasentosa) are on exploration stage.

The company earlier said that it expected to produce around 20 million tons in 2006 together from its concessions. (robert)
