Banpu Q3 Indonesian coal production slightly down, sales rise

Coal sales climbed to 3.43 million tons in this year's third quarter from 2.87 million tons in the previous quarter, the company said.
In its quarterly report, Banpu said in the third quarter, Indonesian coal price had improved and demand for its coal had increased, mainly from from Japan and China.
Banpu operates six coalmines in Indonesia including producing coalmines: Jorong Barutama Greston (South Kalimantan), Indominco Mandiri (East Kalimantan), and Kitadin (East Kalimantan). Last year, production from these mines reached 10 million tons.
According the quarterly report, Trubaindo coalmine in East Kalimantan is under construction and it expected to start production by the end of 2004.
Meanwhile, the company?s Mumpun Pandan coalmine Jambi Province has recently completed its feasibility study and it scheduled to commence production in 2005, while another coalmine, Barasentosa Lestari, in South Sumatra is on exploration stage.
Banpu has recently signed a Coal Sales and Purchase contract with Korea Western Power Co.,Ltd. (KOWEPO) in Jakarta to supply the latter power plant a total of 1.68 million tons of coal until December 2006.
Banpu expects to produce around 20 million tons in 2006 from its Indonesian concession areas. (robert)
