Thailand's top coal miner Banpu Plc said that its Indonesia coal operation secured sale volume of 6.62 million tons in the third quarter with its two biggest mines, Indominco and Trubaindo, delivered steady sale of 3.59 million tons and 1.76 million tons respectively.

The company in its financial report said that the new mine Bharinto, another high quality coal mine adjacent to Trubaindo, started its first albeit small shipment of 0.02 million tonnes.

Bharinto will gradually increase production and become major contribution to volume growth into next year.

?The average coal selling price in this period was US$ 88.05 per ton which declined by 7 percent due to the weakening coal market prices since early this year,? it said.

The company reported that net profit reached 2,262m baht representing a lower net profit by 46% from the previous year and 17% from the previous quarter due mainly to lower coal selling prices in Indonesia and Australia particularly in the export market.

However, coal operations in both countries delivered strong coal sale volume at lower production cost which lessened the impact on profit margin.

It said that power business continued to perform steadily and contributed solid earnings.
