Tuesday, May 18 2004 - 06:55 AM WIB

Thai energy conglomerate Banpu Plc. reported on Monday that its first quarter coal production from Indonesian mines reached 2.75 million tons, relatively unchanged compared to previous quarter.

Banpu operates three producing coalmines in Kalimantan, namely PT.Indominco Mandiri, Jorong Barutama Greston and Kitadin.

The company said it continued to build up coal inventory at all mines to ensure smooth delivery during heavy rainfall and to avoid incurrence of high demurrage charge.

It said Measures taken to strengthen co-ordination between production and logistics substantially reduced demurrage and dead freight charges to Bt37million from Bt84million incurred during the previous quarter.

?With dry weather expected in the following quarters, higher inventory built up, and more machinery ready for larger production volume, the company can manage delivery more effectively to fill high demand of most utility companies in Asia. The actions taken will build confidence on reliability of shipment and enhance customer relationship in the longer term,? said the company. (alex)
