Banpu reports higher Q2 coal output at RI mines

Thai mining giant Banpu PCL said that coal production at its mines in Indonesia during the second quarter of this year increased to a combined 7.12 million tons from 6.92 million tons in the same quarter of last year.
The company said in a statement Tuesday that two of its largest mines, Indominco and Trubaindo, located in East Kalimantan, delivered 3.56 million tons and 1.85 million tons, respectively.
It said that total sales volume during the quarter reached 6.94 million tons, relatively flat for year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter.
Bharinto mine continued to ramp up with 0.47 million tons sales. The mine will gradually increase its production volumes in the following periods and will become a major growth contribution to Indonesia coal operations, the company said.
The softening of coal market price continues to put pressure on the average selling price for Indonesia coal with average coal selling price down by 3 percent from last quarter and 18 percent from second quarter of last year. The averate selling price was US$77.46 per ton compared to last year at US$94.63 per ton.
