Thai energy firm Banpu Plc reported on Monday that its Indonesian coal sales volume reached 4.41 million tons in the second quarter of 2009, slightly lower compared to the same period of last year at 4.45 million tons.

Banpu said, of 4.41 million tons sales recorded by its Indonesian subsidiaries, PT. Indominco Mandiri accounted for 2.48 million tons, PT Trubaindo 1.19 million tons and PT Jorong Barutama Greston 740,000 tons.

Average coal selling price during the quarter was US$73.89 per ton, a 12 percent decline compared to the previous quarter. ?Since coal price was contracted in advance, the lower delivered price in this period is the reflection of downward market price prevailing in second half of last year,? it said.

During the period, Indominco started production at the East Block, adjacent to the existing West Block. Output from East Block should help sales volume accelerate in the second half of this year, it added. (denny)
