Thai energy firm Banpu Plc's Indonesian coal sales volume reached 5.05 million tons, down 5 percent and 6 percent compared to the same period last year and previous quarter, respectively.

?The sales volume weakened by 5 percent from last year and 6 percent from the previous quarter due to the unseasonal rainfall in Kalimantan during the period which affected production at Indominco and Trubaindo,? the company said in statement on Thursday.

The average coal selling price held up well at US$78.18 per ton, up 13 percent compared to the same period of last year and 1 percent compared to the previous quarter due to favorable market situation, it said.

Jorong mine was granted with forestry permit and has resumed operation since August with modest output for this quarter, it added.

Banpu PCL has five coal mine subisdiries operating in East and South Kalimantan, namely: Indominco Mandiri, Jorong, Kitadin, Trubaindo and Bharinto Ekatama. (denny)
