After its success to develop coalmine in Bontang, a major coal producer in East Kalimantan, PT Indominco Mandiri, now owned by Thai conglomerate Banpu Thailand, plans to build a coal-fired mine-mouth power plant in East Kalimantan?s Kutai Timur regency, Kaltim Post reported on Friday.
The plan to build the power plant was unveiled during a meeting between Banpu?s executives with Kutai Timur regent Mahyuddin.
The regent expressed its appreciation on the company?s plan during the meeting and hoped that the plan could be realized soon.
Earlier, Banpu said that it also planned to develop a similar power plant in Muaro Bungo regency in Jambi province.
Indomico, which is wholly owned by Thai energy conglomerate Banpu Plc, produces around 3.5 million tons of coal annually from its Bontang coalmine in East Kalimantan. (*)
