Banpu?s Jorong supplies coal to Mindanao power plant

South Kalimantan coal miner PT. Jorong Barutama Greston will supply up to 775,000 tonnes of coal per year to newly operated 210-MW power plant in Mindanao, Phillippines owned by Steag State Power, Inc., The American Chronicle reported Saturday.
The plant is scheduled to be inaugurated by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Monday. The power plant will supply 15% of the power demand for Mindanao, which has lately been experiencing weather and environmental problems with its hydroelectric power plants and rising costs of fuel for its power barges.
The report said that Jorong, a subsidiary of Thai Energy conglomerate Banpu PCL, will supply coal to the power plant until 2019.(*)
