Thailand-based Banpu PCL reported that output performance of its Indonesian coal mines is in line with its plan, with sales volume reaching 7 million tons despite the rainy season.

Indominco and Trubaindo achieved 3.6 million tons and 1.9 million tons of sales respectively.

"The newly opened Bharinto reported 0.3 million tons sales with good progress in operation and logistics synchronization with the adjacent Trubaindo mine," the company said in the statement on Wednesday.

The weakening coal market price since last year continued to pressure average selling prices for Banpu?s Indonesian coal, down nearly 1% in the first quarter versus the fourth quarter of 2012 and 20% versus same period last year. (from around $101.35 per ton to just $80.62 per ton).

In 2013, Banpu will continue to focus on managing and reducing mining costs to lessen the impact from lower coal prices.

Banpu PCL also reported a 57 percent lower net profit of US$31 million for the first quarter of 2013 compared with the same period last year.

The declining is due to significantly lower coal selling prices due to excess supply in the seaborne thermal coal market.
