Thai energy conglomerate Banpu PLC expected its new Trubaindo mine in East Kalimantan is on schedule to commence commercial production in August next year.

?Construction work will start this year and we are preparing detailed planning and tender documents, ? said Banpu Indonesia, business development and government relations director Pongsak Thongampai.

Pongsak said the mine will be designed to produce at around 5 million tons in 2005.

Banpu acquired Trubaindo in 2001, together with Indominco Mandiri, Kitadin and Barasentosa Lestari in 2001.

Pongsak said coal would be hauled by truck through 30-km road to Mahakam River, and then to be transported by barges to loading port. The company is considering using floating crane to upload the coal from barges.(alex)
