Director Yusof Merican told Petromindo.Com on Monday that the terminal will have throughput capacity of 8 million tonnes per annum at first phase. According to Yusof, the terminal will serve as coal hub to service coal producers in Sumatra and East Kalimantan.
The terminal will be equipped with barge unloading facility with barge size of 3,000-12,000 dwt, three stockpiles which are capable of storing 600,000 tonnes of coal at any one time and loading facility which is capable of handling 120000 dwt capsize vessels with loading rate of 2,500-3,000 tonnes per hour.
Yusof said the Company has been in talks with a number of potential users including coal producers and international traders and hoped to be able to sign contracts soon.
?CIBT is strategically located to handle coal from Sumatra and Kalimantan producers and also will act as blending center for its customers,? he said, adding that the company will charge clients around US$4.5 per tonne for unloading, stockpiling and loading to mother vessel. ?We?ll charge slightly higher fee for blending,? he said.
The Company has thus far invested US$40 million to develop the terminal. CIBT is controlled by Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate MTD Capital Bhd.
