Banyuwangi-Gilimanuk submarine cable to join Java-Bali power greed

PT Indonesia Power said submarine electricity cable connecting Banyuwangi in East Java and Gilimanuk in western part of Bali will join the Java-Bali power grid in August 2012.

The submarine electricity cable will have the capacity to transmit 200-megawatt electricity supply.

Indonesia Power said the submarine electricity cable is being produced by main contractor Sumitomo Corp of Japan. Sumitomo early this year won open bid worth Rp450 billion for the engineering, procurement and construction of the submarine electricity cable.

?The installation of the submarine cable will begin in January 2012. The electricity should be transmitted through the submarine cable in August 2012 and joining the Java-Bali power grid system,? said General Manager for power business unit of PT Indonesia Power, Antonius Resap Tyas Artono, told reporters in Bali.

The electricity supply will come from Paiton power plant in East Java. (godang)
