The people of Kasiau village in Tabalong regency, South Kalimantan, and coal mining company PT Adaro Indoneia have recently appointed the Bapedalda environmental watchdog to resolve an alleged water pollution made by the company.
The local Banjarmasin Post daily said that the villagers had accused Adaro of polluting several local rivers in the Murung Pudak district, causing the people to be no longer unable to use the water.
The paper said that Bapedalda had already started taking water sample for laboratory tests, and a result was expected to come out between September 5-10.
In the meantime, the villagers had agreed not to resort to unlawful action.(*)
