East Kalimantan coal miner, PT Bara Kumala Sakti (BKS), a coal unit of Indian firm Archean Group has not resumed its operation as it was still in negotiation to settle problems with surrounding community, industrial source told Petromindo.
The exact problems company has with the community remain unclear but the Kutai Kartanegara regency recently suspended the operation of BKS as it has not installed dust net surrounding their stockpiling area.
The regent of Kutai Kartanegara Rita Widasari conducted direct evaluation on BKS' mine before ordering the suspension, stating that dust from both stockpile areas have disrupted the activities of nearby school, namely Loa Kulu Junior High School.
Bara Kumala currently produces around 400,000 tons of coal with 5,000 kcal/kg (GAR) and 1.4% sulphur content per month. It sells its coal among others to Noble, LG, Peabody, and to Taipower.
