Barata, Siemens sign LoI for manufacturing of power plant components

Indonesia?s state-owned manufacturing and engineering company PT Barata Indonesia and Germany?s Siemens AG signed on Wednesday a letter of intent (LoI) for cooperation in the manufacturing of power plant components and EPC, Antara reported.

The news agency quoted Barata President Director Silmy Karim as saying that the LoI followed a recent MoU signed by the two firms in Germany.

He said that the cooperation with Siemens is aimed at supporting the government?s program to develop 35,000 MW power plants over a five-year period.

He added that the cooperation with Siemens will help accelerate transfer of technology so that Indonesia in the future can manufacturing its own power generating units.

Meanwhile, Deputy State Minister of State Owned Enterprises Fajar Sampurno said that the government has assigned Barata as coordinator of state-owned enterprises including PT Pindad, PT PAL, and PT Boma Bisma Indra in the efforts to increase the local content in the 35 GW power plant program to around 75 percent.(*)
