Barisan Tropical Mining to end operation

Gold mining firm PT Barisan Tropical Mining (BTM) would soon end its operation in Musirawan, South Sumatra, as the gold reserves in the area is exhausted.
BTM manager Boy Abidin told South Sumatra Governor Rosihan Arsyad that the company was providing some Rp 7 billion in cash for the severance pay of its 300 employees.
BTM is an Indonesian-Australia joint venture, which is the largest gold mining firm in Sumatra.
Boy said that the BTM owners were forming another firm called PT Barisan Sumatra Mining, which receives a license to mine gold in a 135 ha area also in South Sumatra.
Boy said that the new company may recruit the former BTM employees.(*)
