Batam Island will next July get a 2x27.5 MW gas power plant built by state power company PT PLN, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Wednesday.
The company will soon build the power plant, and is determined to complete its work by July 2004, the paper quoted Eri Ifriyandri, president director of PT PLN Batam, as saying recently.
PT PLN Batam and state gas transmission and distribution firm PGN had last month signed a 15-year contract for the supply of natural gas to the power plant.
Gas for the Batam power project will come from ConocoPhillips? gas fields in South Sumatra through PGN?s pipeline which links that province to Singapore via Batam. President Megawati Soekarnoputri dedicated the pipeline project last month.
Batam is one of Indonesia?s most developed industrial centers. (*)
