Batan to hold tender for nuclear reactor design

The National Nuclear Energy Agency (Batan) plans to hold tender end of this year or early next year for the conceptual design of a planned non-commercial nuclear reactor in Serpong, Banten Province, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.
The paper quoted Batan Head Djarot Sulistio Wisnusubroto as saying that the government has already provided the necessary funding of Rp 50 billion for the design work of the nuclear reactor, that would have a capacity to produce 30 MW of electricity.
He said that once tender for the conceptual design has been completed, Batan will hold tender for the detail engineering design, with allocated budget of Rp 1.5 trillion.
The paper said that companies from various countries such as Russia, China and Japan have expressed interest to develop the country?s first nuclear reactor to produce electricity. (*)
