The planned Batang coal-fired power plant in Central Java will require annual coal supply of 7.5 million tons. The 2x1,000 MW power plant is targeted to operate commercially in 2016.

?In terms of the source of the coal we?ll follow the supplier selection guidance provided by PLN (state-owned electricity firm). But for certain, we?re allowed to use two or three suppliers of coal for this power plant project,? said Chief Business Development Officer of Adaro Power, Adrian Lembong to Petromindo.com over the weekend.

Regarding the calorific value of the coal, Adrin said that it would be determined by the company together with PLN.

Adaro Power, J Power and Itochu Corp have set up a consortium called PT Bhimasena Power to develop the Batang coal-fired power plant. Bhimasena will supply the electricity to PLN under a 25-year contract, signed in October of last year.
