Bayan extends Wahana mining contract with Leighton

South Kalimantan coal miner PT.Wahana Baratama Mining (WBM) has renewed mining contract with PT.Leighton Contractors Indonesia, a unit of Australian firm Leighton Holding.

Jenny Quantero, a Director at WBM?s parent company IDX-listed coal mining group PT. Bayan Resources Tbk was quoted by Kontan daily on Friday as saying that the original 6-year contract, which should have ended in 2012, was extended by four more years.

Quantero also said that under the renewed contract, Leighton would increase coal mining volume to 9 million tonnes per annum from original 6MTPA starting 2009.

WBM has a third generation coal contract of work signed on Nov. 20, 1997 to operate a 7,811 Ha concession in South Kalimantan. Bayan has 100 percent shares in WBM.(*)
