Bayan Group starts coal production from S. Kalimantan mine

Bayan Group has started coal production from its mine in Satui, South Kalimantan, the company?s senior official said.

The mine, which is operated by its unit PT Wahana Baratama Mining (WBM), is expected to produce 2.5 million tons (MT) of coal this year, 5 MT next year and ramp up to 15 MT in 2012, Bayan?s commissioner Michael Sumarijanto told Petromindo.Com on Friday.

The mine has significant deposit of bituminous coal up to 6,800 Kcal/kg (GAD).

According to Petromindo.Com?s data, WBM -which is CCoW holder with area covering 7,811 hectares -has minable reserves for open pit around 42 million tons and 105 million tons for underground mine.

Bayan, which is controlled by Malaysian businessman Dato Low Tuck Kwong has six coal mining business units including East Kalimantan miner PT Gunung Bayan Pratamacoal and is also the owner of the Balikpapan coal terminal. (godang)
