BDI aims to increase diamond production from Indonesian mine

British Virgin Island miner BDI Mining Corp is aiming to achieve monthly diamond production of 4,000 carats per month in 2005-2006 fiscal year from its Cempaka mine in South Kalimantan with an eye for 8,000 carats per month expansion.

The company said 4,000 carats per month capacity would be achieved with the addition of a third rotary pan to the existing two pans. The third pan is currently being commissioned and was installed at a cost of less than

US$350,000, including modifications and upgrades to the existing plant circuit.

The company, however, did not say when the 8,000 carat per month capacity would be achieved.

The production milestone was achieved on September 2 when the Company completed its first sale by tender of 6,518 carats of gem diamonds from the Cempaka resulting in sales of US$2,506,684. Two more tenders are scheduled before the end of December.(alex)
