Canadian junior miner BDI Mining Corp said Wednesday it anticipated undertaking its first diamond sales from Cempaka diamond mine in South Kalimantan during the June quarter, with valuation of the production to date to take place at the end of March.

BDI said in a statement that it had completed mining activities at the Danau Seran South Channel with a total of 16,528 bench cubic meters (bcm) of diamondiferous gravels being processed.

“These gravels yielded 2,504 carats of gem diamonds, at an average stone size of 0.36 carats and a recovered grade of 0.15 carats per bcm,” BDI said.

BDI also said mining of the Danau Seran Main Channel was underway and the diamond stone size and grade appears consistent with mining in the South Channel.

“A number of good quality large stones are being recovered, including a 10.74 carat white stone, a 7.69 carat white stone and 5.97 carat white stone,” the company said adding that around 584.75 carats have been recovered from the channel to date.

BDI added that a total of 1.325 kilograms of gold and platinum concentrate has been recovered as a by-product of mining in the South and Main Channels at Danau Seran.

Elsewhere, the company said the Indonesian government had granted an increase in the size of its Cempaka Contract of Work from 2,944 hectares to 11,031 hectares. (robert)
