Bekasi begins construction of waste-generated power plant

The Bekasi Mayoralty administration in West Java has started construction of waste-generated power plants with combined capacity of 29.2 MW at the Sumur Batu landfill in Bekasi Regency in cooperation with a company called NW Industries Group, Koran Tempo reported on Thursday.

The paper quoted CEO of the company Teddy Sujarwanto as saying that the first phase 2x2.3 MW plants with total investment of Rp 130 billion are expected to be completed within nine months.

Once completed, the company will proceed with the second phase construction comprising of 2x2.3 MW, 2x2.4 MW and 2x2.6 MW generating units, he added.

Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi said that the power plant project would help resolve the waste problem in Bekasi, and provide extra revenue for the administration from selling electricity output to state owned power firm PLN. (*)
