PT Bekasi Power (BP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of IDX-listed industrial estate developer PT Jababeka Tbk, said it will set up a joint venture with Singaporean firm Sembawang Corporation to build a power plant in a planned industrial estate in Kendal, Central Java.

Teguh Setiawan, President Director of Bekasi Power, told Petromindo.com on the sidelines the 6th Independent Power Producer (IPP) Conference held by Petromindo recently that the plan of developing the 2x300 MW power plant at the Kendal industrial estate is still on despite that there isn?t yet any assurance that state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will buy from the power plant.

The firm has carried out feasibility study on the project and expects the project to come onstream in 2019. Still, Teguh said, PLN has yet to give a response to the firm?s wishes to sell power from the plant to the firm.

?Nevertheless, we continue land acquisition process for the location of the industrial estate and the power plant,? he said, adding more than 1,000 ha of the total target of 2,700 ha has been acquired for the project.

Investment for the project is estimated at US$720 million or $1.2 million per MW, he said.
