Power blackout has occurred in some parts of Aceh and North Sumatera after state electricity company PLN conducted a major overhaul on one of the turbines of its Sicanang gas turbine power plant in Belawan, North Sumatra, Kompas reported on Friday.
Djoko Prasetyo, the general manager for power generation and transmission of PLN?s local unit, said that the power blackout, which began on Wednesday following the overhaul of the turbine, could last for two months.
?If possible, the overhaul works will be completed in August,? he said, adding that the overhaul of the turbine had caused a decline in the power supply by 175 megawatts.
According to him, the existing power supply is only enough to meet the demand in normal hours. During peak hours between 07;00 pm and 09:00 pm, blackout in certain areas could not, therefore, be avoided, he said.
In a normal condition, the power supply from the Belawan plant reaches 820 Megawatts, he said. (*)
