The Belawan power plant in South Sumatra has resumed operation since Wednesday after certain broken parts had been repaired, the Kompas daily reported Friday.

The paper quoted head of the state-owned electricity company PLN for North Sumatra region Harry Perwono as saying, however, that customers will continue to suffer occasional blackouts due to power shortage.

Total blackout occurred in all parts of North Sumatra, and some parts of Aceh at 7:30 p.m. last week.

Belawan power plant is the largest in North Sumatra with capacity 200-MegaWatt. (Robert)
