Benggala-1 well to be on stream soon

The Benggala-1 well, in Langkat block, North Sumatra, operated by PT Pertamina EP, is expected to start flowing gas soon, company President Director Syamsu Alam told Petromindo.com Friday.
Construction of the 13 km gas pipeline linking the well with the Wampu station is nearly completed, he said. He added that the company was currently waiting for the decision of the upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas regarding the gas allocation.
Syamsu said that production rate at the well is estimated at 5-7 mmscfd. ?We?re now waiting for the approval of SKK Migas,? he said.
As previously reported by this portal, the gas from the Benggala-1 well is expected help resolve the lingering acute gas shortage in the area of Medan, the provincial capital of North Sumatra. It remains unclear, however, whether the gas would be distributed to industrial consumers or to the state-owned electricity company PLN. The local industries need about 22 mmscfd of gas, while PLN needs about 102 mmscfd. Supplyl for the industries currently stands at only 7 mmscfd, solely coming from the Pangkalan Susu field after production from Glagah Kambuna field operated by Pertamina EP has been depleted.
