Bengkulu aims to increase coal export to 1 million tons in 2005

The Bengkulu administration wants to see an increase in coal export from the province to surpass one million tons in 2005 from 685,000 tons in 2004, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported on Monday quoting provincial chief of energy and mineral resources office Aminuddin as saying.

According to Aminuddin, strong coal prices and new mining equipment which will encourage companies to expand their coal mining exploration activities, which would help increase the provincial coal output.

He added that Bengkulu's coal has high calorie content, which has strong market demand in developed countries.

Among of the companies conducting coal mining operations in the province are PT Bukit Sunur, PT Danau Mas Hitam, PT Bara Indah Lestari, Koperasi Bakti Mandiri and PT Berkelindo.(*)
