Berau clinches coal supply contracts with S. Korean power firms

East Kalimantan coal miner PT.Berau Coal has clinched 3-year coal supply contract extension to South Korean power plant firm Komipo, a company official said on Wednesday.

Marketing Manager Eko Budi told Petromindo.Com that under the contract that start 2007, Berau will ship 500,000 tonnes of coal annually until 2009.

Eko also said Berau has clinched new contract of 500,000 tonnes with another South Korean power plant firm Kewespo for 2007 shipment.

According to Eko, on Wednesday Dec 13, 2006, Berau has achieved record shipment of 10 million tonnes in one year. The company also recorded the highest monthly production ever of 1.37 million tonnes in November 2006, he said.

Berau is targeting to ship at least 10.6 million tonnes of coal in 2006, he said.

Berau director Tria Suprajeni in Monday interview said that the company planned to increase production to 12 MT in 2007, adding that the company still has 3MTPA of spare production capacity to serve spot market. (godang)
