East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Berau Coal has achieved a record coal output of around 2.91 million tons in the second quarter of 2006, a 17 percent higher compared to the same period last year, a company official said Wednesday.
?Despite rains falling almost every day, mining activities are going well. We also have sufficient coal at the mining pit or the stockpiles,? company marketing manager Eko Budi told Petromindo.Com, adding that Berau produced 5.09 million tons in the first half of 2006.
According to Eko, Berau targets to produce around 11 million tons this year.
Berau sold around 9.5 million tons of coal last year, of which about 70 percent were exported to its traditional markets, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan, while the remaining portion for domestic markets. (godang)
