Berau Coal clinches deal with Bhatia on coal supplies

East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Berau Coal has clinched a deal to supply its Indian existing buyer Bhatia International 1.5 million tons of coal next year, according to a company official.

 

"Besides, next week Berau will negotiate with another existing buyer Unique Mining of Thailand on a contract to deliver between one million and 1.5 million tons of coal next year's delivery," Marketing Manager Eko Budi told Petromindo.Com on Friday.

 

Berau was also participating in the spot tender for the contract to supply Taiwan Power Company with coal for August-November 2007 delivery, he said.

 

Berau produced 10.7 million tons of coal in 2006 and is seeking to produce 12 million tons this year. It has also planned to double its output to 20 million tons per annum in 2011.

 

Berau exports 70 percent of its production. Domestically, it supplies coal to the Suralaya power plant owned by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the Paiton power plant owned by PT Java Power and the Tanjung Jati B power plant owned by Sumitomo Corporation. (godang)
