Berau Coal discovers 41 million tons of high rank coal

Indonesia-listed coal producer PT Berau Coal Energy Tbk said that the company had just discovered reserves of 41 million tons of coal with calorific value of 6,100 kcal/kg with first production possible to commence this year.

President Director of Berau Coal Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said that the company is expected to produce 1.4 million tons of coal with calorific value of 6,100 kkac/kg this year.

?Most of our coal reserves has calorific value of 5,000-5,600 kcal/kg but the new JORC report identifies that we have coal reserves of 41 million tons with the calorific value 6,100 kcal/kg,? he told Petromindo.com.

The company earlier said that it would brand the high rank coal as ?Ebony High Sulfur? having a 1.7 percent sulphur content.

The "Ebony High Sulfur" would be mined from its block in Sambarata, East Kalimantan.

In 2012, the company is set to meet output of 23.5 million tons, increasing from 20 million tons last year, then it expects to boost it up to 27 million tons next year.
