Indonesian-listed coal producer PT Berau Coal Energy Tbk said that the company has consistently met the quota of its domestic market obligation (DMO) as required by the government in effort to avert scarcity of coal supply for the domestic users.

?I am proud to say that we (Berau Coal) may be one of coal companies consistently fulfilling the DMO quota. We even always exceed the DMO target,? President Director of Berau Coal Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said in a special interview with the Coal Asia magazine.

?We are the ?good boys? in implementing the government?s DMO policy.?

In 2010, the Berau Coal required to supply 24 percent of its production of 14,2 million tonnes to the local market.

He said that the company exceeded the 18 percent DMO quota set by the government for Berau Coal last year.

The company produced some 20 million tonnes of coal in 2011.

The government earlier stated a number of companies mandated to supply the DMO credit failed to meet the target, allowing them to transfer its quota to other coal miners in business to business approach.

Thamrin said that a number of coal producers failing to meet its quota had sent a letter to the Mineral and Energy Resource Minister Jero Wacik asking for dispensation

Under the 2009 Ministerial Decree on DMO, a sanction of 50 percent production cut would be imposed on coal producers in the following year for failing to meet its current year DMO quota.
