Berau Coal in negotiation with Komipo, Suralaya

East Kalimantan-based coal producer PT Berau Coal is currently in negotiation with South Korea?s electricity firm Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd (Komipo) to settle spot coal sales contract to the latter with a total volume of 500,000 tons of coal.

Berau marketing manager Eko Budi told Petromindo.Com on Monday that coal shipment to Korea is expected to commence delivery in April for one year period.

Meanwhile, Eko also said that Berau is proposing to supply a total of two million tons of coal under one year period to the 3,400-megawatt Suralaya power plant in Banten.

?We?re still carrying out the technical evaluation for our proposal to Suralaya,? Eko said, adding that the price for the Suralaya is scheduled to be submitted next month.

The Suralaya power plant is operated by PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.

Berau shipped around 9.5 million tons of coal last year, of which about 70 percent were exported to its traditional markets, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan, while the remaining portion for domestic markets. (godang)
