East Kalimantan based coal mining firm PT Berau Coal recorded production of 6.7 million tons in 2001, exceeding the company?s 2001 production target of 6.5 million tons, according to the company?s president.
The figure was a significant increase compared to 2000 production of 4.8 million tons.
Jeffrey Mulyono, Berau Coal president told Petromindo.Com in an interview Monday that the sharp increase was due to favorable weather condition.
Jeffrey said in 2002, Berau aimed to further increase production to 8.5 million tons.
The company is 60 percent owned by United Tractors which plans to divest its entire stake this year, while Armadian Tritunggal and Japan trading powerhouse Nissho Iwai hold 30 percent and 10 percent, respectively. (godang)
