East Kalimantan coal miner PT. Berau Coal said on Wednesday its first quarter coal production reached 2.82 million tonnes, higher than last year?s same period production of 2.31 million tonnes.

Marketing manager Eko Budi told Petromindo.Com that the company is budgeted to produce 6.24 million tonnes of coal in the first semester to meet production target of 12 million tonnes this year.

Heavy rainfall that hit the mine during the first quarter has negatively affected production, Eko said in an earlier interview.

Eko also said that currently Berau Coal has been 95 percent contracted for its 12 million tonnes production target for this year. ?Berau is now working to sell 2008 production target of 13.5 million tonnes to customers. Now, some 45 percent of 2008 production target had been sold out to domestic market, South Korea, China, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan. More contracts for 2008 shipments are expected to be signed in coming months,? he said. (godang)
