East Kalimantan-based coalminer PT Berau Coal said it had produced 1.49 million tons of coal in the first quarter of this year, down from the previous quarter?s 1.71 million tons.

Heavy downpours in January and February had been one reason behind the production fall, corporate secretary Ratmono Ratmansunu told Petromindo.Com Thursday

Ratmono said the next quarter?s production would be targeted at 2 million tons.

Berau Coal, 60 percent owned by heavy equipment maker United Tractors, is one of Indonesia?s major coal producer, operating coalmines in Berau Regency in East Kalimantan. (godang)
