The Jakarta Stock Exchange listed heavy equipment supplier PT United Tractors Tbk (UT) said on Friday its subsidiary coal-mining firm PT Berau Coal had sold 6.9 million tons of coal last year, up from 6.6 million tons in 2001.

UT said Berau had exported a 74 percent of it sales last year mainly to Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan, while the remaining were sold to Jawa Power and Suralaya power plants.

?Berau?s unaudited revenue rose to US$139.20 million last year from US$125.92 in 2001,? UT said, adding that the revenue increase had also been due to higher average coal prices in 2002.

Berau Coal operates a coalmine in Berau regency in East Kalimantan. UT has a 60 percent shareholding in the company. (robert)
