Berau Coal supplies 5 MTPA to domestic market under long-term contracts

East Kalimantan coal miner PT Berau Coal has been supplying five million tonnes per annum of coal to two domestic buyers under long-term contracts, the parent company PT Berau Energy revealed recently.

The firm has a 15-year contract with independent power producer (IPP) PT Jawa Power, which has 1,220 MW coal-fired power plant in Paiton complex, East Java, to supply 2 million tonnes (? 20%) of coal per annum starting November 2000.

According to the deal, the contract can be extended until not more than 30 years, since November 2000. The selling price is negotiated on yearly basis.

Berau Coal also has a 10-year contract with PT Indonesia Power, a unit of state-owned electricity firms PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to supply 3 million tonnes (?5%) per annum of coal, starting Jan 2008.

The selling price is also negotiated on yearly basis. (denny)
