Berau Coal to consider IPCC

IDX-listed PT Berau Coal is considering to deploy In-Pit Crushing and Conveying (IPCC) technology to be deployed in its mine, a source in the company told Petromindo.com that it plans to adopt the system in the coming years.
"We invited Sandvik Mining to our office for a discussion about it last week," the source said on Thursday Oct. 25.
The source said that Berau has already installed a long conveying belt system in the mine, without detailing the length and the investment spent, which is one part of the system in addition to crushing stations.
IPCC, a relatively expensive technology, has been adopted throughout the world to effectively cover overburden removal, ore and waste stacking on open cut mining, reducing the number of trucks by around 50 percent and total truck hauling distance by 70 percent as well as increasing productivity through continuous mining.
It has four types of technology ranging from fixed that can not be relocated, semi fixed that can be relocated in two three years, semi mobile that can be relocated in six months and fully mobile IPCC, in which Berau is considering the first three.
"Fully mobile system is certainly not suitable as we already have contracts with contractors, we couldn't just cut their contracts. In addition we also need to consider truck drivers and other support employees' livelihood," the source said, adding that the system can be deployed in concessions not handled by the contractor.
