Coalminer Berau Coal will be able to meet this year?s production target of 6.5 million tons, according to the company?s top executive.
?Until the third quarter of this year, our cumulative production has reached 5 million tons. There?s a good chance that we may even exceed our annual production target by 500,000 tons,? Jeffrey Mulyono, Berau Coal president told Petromindo.com on the sidelines of a seminar recently.
Berau Coal, which operates a coal mine in Berau regency, East Kalimantan is one of the few coalmines that had not experienced any production disturbances related to disputes with the local community or workers.
Jeffrey further said that Berau expected to set production at around 8 million tons in 2002.
The company is 60 percent owned by United Tractors which plans to divest its entire stake this year, while Armadian Tritunggal and Nissho Iwai hold 30 percent and 10 percent, respectively. (alex)
