Berau Coal to take part in mine-mouth power plant project

Coal miner PT Berau Coal on Friday formalized an agreement with Berau regency administration, state power company PT Indonesia Power and Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT) to develop a mine-mouth power plant with a generating capacity of 2 x 6 megawatts, East Kalimantan-based Kaltim Post reported.

Under the agreement, which was declared in Tanjung Redeb in the presence of Minister of Research and Technology Hatta Rajasa, Berau will supply low calorie coal for the power plant. The project will be located in Gunung Tabur district in Berau regency, East Kalimantan.

The development of the steam power plant is expected for completion around September 2003.

Meanwhile, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Saturday Indo Power, a unit of power company PLN, had planned to invite public investors to take part in the Berau power project. The project tender will be opened in August, BPPT?s senior executive Agus Rusyana Hoetman was quoted as saying. (*)
