PT Berau Coal, one of Indonesia's largest coal mining companies, has stated its intention to enter the coal bed methane (CBM) business, the company's Business Director Ferial Martifauzi told Petromindo.com.
"There's a big chance for us to work on CBM potential available in our operating mines," he said.
Berau is known to operate three mines in East Kalimantan, namely in Lati, Binungan and Tambarata, which according to Ferial, each of the three has enormous CBM potential waiting to be tapped.
"There are a number strategies that we are currently considering, including possible cooperation with third parties," he said, without giving the timeframe or disclosing how much investment it plans to spend.
