Berau produces 1.8 million tons of coal in Q2

East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Berau Coal said on Monday it had produced 1.8 million tons of coal in the second quarter of 2002, up from 1.4 million tons in the previous quarter.
Its total sales of coal in the second quarter of 2002 amounted to 1.7 million tons, compared with 1.2 million tons in this year?s first quarter, the company said in a statement. Of the 1.7 million tons, some 1.2 tons were exported.
The company said earlier it might have to revise down its coal production target of this year, from 8.2 million tons to 7.5 million tons.
In 2001, Berau produced 6.8 million tons of coal.
PT Berau Coal, which operates in Berau regency, is 60 percent owned by publicly listed heavy equipment maker PT United Tractors Tbk, and 30 percent by Armadian Tritunggal. The remaining 10 percent is owned by Japan?s trading powerhouse Nissho Iwai. (Robert)
