Berau Regency plans to set up own mining office

The Berau Regency in East Kalimantan plans to set up its own mining office to help formulate strategy to take advantage of it enormous mining potential, Regent Masdjuni said Tuesday during a workshop on Indonesia?s mining policy in Jakarta.
He said that the function of the mining office include gathering data, and designing mining policy plans.
Masdjuni said that the lack of quality data was one of the factors inhibiting Berau in taking full advantage of its mining resources.
The other problems include the lack of quality human resources, low technology capability, and conflicting regulation. (Johnson)
